We suggest you travel by bus if possible - parking in town can be traumatic and rumour has it the traffic wardens are paid commission only.

Princes St has a range of shops you will find anywhere. For the more unusual shops when looking for souvenirs or gifts try walking from the castle down the royal mile towards Holyrood Palace. We are sure you will run out of energy before running out of shops. be sure to make a side trip into Cockburn street on the way.

The upper part of the Royal Mile has several interesting pubs and cafes where you can buy lunch. Sometimes you can even sit outside comfortably. There are a number of good places near the University, in Bristo Square

For a good night out if you want a pub with music try Opal Lounge in George Street, Edwards ( Charlotte St) or Henry J Bean near the Caledonian Hotel then move to a disco such as Club Mercado or the Why Not on George Street. If you like to drink without intrusive music try All Bar One next to the Sheraton.

If you like a good walk take a bus to Cramond and walk along the Beach or the River Almond. If you are feeling energetic ( you need to be reasonably fit) go to Holyrood Park and find your way to Arthur's seat (No, not THAT Arthur): or, less strenously, Calton Hill.
